Provost's Committees

The provost and his senior staff lead, or participate in as members, a number of key University committees.

Through extensive University-wide committee work with other members of the University community, the provost’s office serves to initiate, support, develop, and promote the advancement of the University’s academic vision.

Academic Calendar Committee

The Academic Calendar Committee is composed of members representing the breadth of professional leadership across the University. This group considers the dates and timing of each new academic calendar, including term begin/end dates, residence hall opening/closing, university holidays, breaks, academic deadlines (add/drop, withdrawal). 

Academic Leadership Team

The Academic Leadership Team (formerly Council of Deans) provides advice and counsel to the provost on academic matters and University-wide issues, including policy and practices, institutional advancement, budget, and planning.

General Education Reform Task Force

The General Education Reform Task Force, composed of faculty, advisors, staff, and students from across all schools and campuses, was convened to explore and establish a path to enrich every undergraduate’s academic experience with transformative opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive without increased financial burden or time to degree. 

Learning Space Management Committee

The Learning Space Management Committee is responsible for the maintenance, renovation, and development of learning spaces and adjacent group-study spaces at the University of Pittsburgh.

Provost’s Advisory Council on Tenure and Promotion

The Provost’s Advisory Council on Tenure and Promotion (PACTP) advises the provost on whether recommendations for tenure and promotion at the academic unit level are consistent with the criteria and standards of the University of Pittsburgh.

Provost's Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Programs

The PACUP committee composed of a breadth of professorial leadership across the University. It reviews academic planning proposals that pertain to undergraduate programs, including new and revised majors, concentrations, etc.

Provost's Advisory Committee on Women's Concerns

PACWC seeks to ensure a productive educational and work environment for faculty, staff, and students, particularly in areas related to women's concerns. It focuses on general issues of campus climate and programs as they affect women throughout the University. PACWC seeks to assist the provost and the University community through its mandate.

Provost’s Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence

The Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence (ACIE) advises the provost on the means to encourage instructional development and teaching excellence at the University of Pittsburgh. It realizes these goals through the sponsorship of special programming and the disposition of grants to faculty members seeking funding for curricular- and technology-driven proposals to advance instructional development and teaching excellence.

Provost’s Standing Committee on Open Educational Resources

The Open Educational Resources standing committee in the Office of the Provost is charged with providing a targeted and sustained Open Education Resources (OER) awareness program across the main and regional campuses at the University of Pittsburgh.

University Council on Graduate Study

UCGS develops basic standards, regulations, and policies applicable to all fields for graduate instruction and research. It reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations concerning proposals for new post-baccalaureate degree and certificate programs throughout the University after such proposals have had prior review and approval by the appropriate people within the school. 

University Planning and Budgeting Committee

The University Planning and Budgeting Committee (UPBC) develops budget parameters for the Educational and General (E&G) operating budget, the capital budget, and others, and forwards them, along with recommendations on compensation increases, to the chancellor. It also makes recommendations concerning proposals for establishing, terminating, or significantly changing programs, or significantly altering resource allocations at levels requiring approval of the chancellor.
