Regulations & Guidelines

The Provost’s office is responsible for establishing and updating a number of academic regulations, guidelines and procedures of importance to academic units of the University, particularly focusing on an undergraduate, graduate and professional students; postdocs; and faculty personnel actions.Those documents are organized in three sections. 

A complete collection of University-level policies—those directives that reflect the administration and governance of the University of Pittsburgh, including operations, community standards, employment, financial, and research and innovation policies—is available via the Office of Policy Development and Management.

Academic Regulations

Academic Regulations are the official rules governing academic matters at Pitt, including grading, course structure, academic standing, and degree requirements.

The Guidelines and Processes documents cover how academic programs and activities are carried out — from program evaluation and research participation to credentialing and appointments.

This section contains some of the most commonly accessed guideline documents for faculty members. These documents cover specific aspects of faculty professional life at Pitt, including appointments and tenure, leave, career transitions, and academic integrity.
