Advancing Graduate and Professional Education at Pitt
The Graduate Studies team in the Office of the Provost is dedicated to the success of Pitt's graduate and professional students — from orientation through graduation and into your career. The team supports high-quality academic programming and connects students with the resources, mentorship, and community they need to thrive.
Funding and Financial Support
Graduate study can be a significant investment, and we lay the groundwork to help you find support. Explore financial awards and funding opportunities including graduate financial aid, appointments, Pitt fellowships and scholarships, and external fellowship options.
If you're a Pitt undergraduate or alum considering graduate study, the Pitt2Pitt Scholarship offers up to $7,500 per year in tuition support when you enroll in a participating Pitt graduate or professional program — a compelling reason to continue your education at Pitt.
Academic and Community Support
The Graduate Studies team sets you on the right path for finding the resources and contacts that will help you achieve your best scholarly work, from academic and research resources to technology tools and writing consultations.
But graduate school is more than academics. The team also shares Pitt programs and initiatives supporting safety, wellness, housing, transportation, and community connection — including dedicated resources for international students and pregnant and parenting students.
Mentoring and Advising
The Graduate Student Mentoring and Advising portal helps connect graduate students and faculty in meaningful mentoring relationships that support your academic and professional goals. Both students and faculty are encouraged to use this tool.
When challenges arise, you can also learn how to work with your school's ombudsperson for additional support and guidance.
Professional Development
Graduate Studies is invested in preparing you for what comes after graduation. Resources include:
- Career Design Workshops — covering career exploration, resume and CV building, and interview preparation
- Graduate Career Foundations — a program that builds six core professional competencies for life beyond Pitt
- Interstride — a career exploration platform serving both international and domestic Pitt students and alumni
- Additional career and teaching resources to help you compete and succeed in your field
Events and Recognition
We celebrate and invest in our graduate community through educational workshops and annual events, including:
- Graduate and Professional Student Orientation
- Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week
- Three Minute Thesis Competition
- Graduate Student Honors Convocation
The team also spreads the word on the outstanding achievement through the Graduate Student Accolades, which shines a spotlight on the remarkable work Pitt graduate students are doing across disciplines.
