- II. Academic Program Assessment and Student Learning Outcomes
-
Each academic program planning proposal within Curriculog must include a plan to assess and engage in continuous improvement of the program. For guidance, please see Assessing Student Learning Outcomes.
Note: Programs may request permission to substitute a professional accreditation process as the assessment plan.
- III. Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Code
-
The University of Pittsburgh uses CIP codes to report institutional data through the NCES's data collection system, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). IPEDS provides a systematic way to identify programs nationwide by discipline so that the programs can be compared to similar programs at other schools, independent of department or other naming convention.
- Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP codes.

- IV. Plan of Study
-
Each undergraduate academic planning proposal within Curriculog must include a term-by-term plan of study that outlines how students may progress through the program. The plan should consider pre-requisite dependencies and course offering patterns and must document the course requirements and total number of credits per term. Also include the total number of credits required to complete the program.
Download the applicable template: Undergraduate Template.
Graduate and professional programs are not required to submit a Plan of Study, but they are encouraged to think about ways to visually demonstrate their credit requirements term by term.
- V. Budget
-
A revenue and expenditures budget is to be submitted if new costs or tuition revenue are expected. The detailed academic planning budget must include revenue and expenditure projections for five years using this academic planning budget template. The budget should be informed by market research.
- Budget for Terminations
- For some program terminations, a budget reflecting the loss of revenue can be helpful. If you are uncertain as to whether your termination requires a budget, please reach out to the Office of the Provost.
