The Office of the Provost is offering eligible graduate students the option to receive a voluntary payroll advance on their September stipend, to be payable on September 11, 2024.
Eligibility
All graduate students who have a fall 2024 appointment and who will not receive an August 2024 stipend from the University of Pittsburgh. Note that graduate students who hold any of the following appointments may be eligible: Teaching Assistant (TA), Teaching Fellow (TF), Graduate Student Assistant (GSA), Graduate Student Research (GSR), Pre-doctoral Fellow, or Certificate Trainee. Graduate students will receive an $800 advance payable on September 11, 2024.
To receive the advance, eligible graduate students must have either an established U.S. bank account set up for direct deposit (preferred) or a U.S. address where a check can be mailed.
Please note that this is an advance and not an additional payment. Graduate students will repay the advance through four $200 payments deducted from their September, October, November, and December stipends.
Process
Schools will identify eligible graduate students and then email them directions on how to request an advance. Requests must be completed by Monday, August 12, 2024. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made to this deadline.
If you think you are an eligible graduate student, contact your department/unit administrator for more information. If you are unsure who to contact, reach out to graduate@pitt.edu for assistance.
