Guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Scholars (June 30, 2005)

RE: Guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Scholars

Enclosed is a revision of the Guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Scholars that I initially approved in January 2005. At that time, the document noted that the “Other Benefits” section is “provisional and under review.” Subsequently, I reconvened the committee that defined post-doc employment categories to review that section and make recommendations. This reconstituted committee has made recommendations to achieve “benefits conversion” for the two categories of post-docs (Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Associates), which, with the concurrence of Senior Vice Chancellor Arthur S. Levine, I have accepted. In addition, this revised document contains a compressed approach to vacation, holidays, and sick days; a new section on “Life Insurance,” and a more accurate statement with respect to qualifying for unpaid medical leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

These revised guidelines are effective July 1, 2005. As required in the enclosed Guidelines, a copy of this document must be provided to all Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Scholars at the time of hire.
