The recent “pay-for-play” college admissions scandal involving affluent and celebrity parents has sparked a national discussion about the influence of privilege on college acceptance and the persistent disparities in access to education. Some are calling it the largest college admissions scandal to take place in America.
Provost Ann Cudd, who started at Pitt last fall, will be continuing the “Year Of” program started by her predecessor, Patricia Beeson, with the Year of Creativity.
Dozens of people gathered April 24 in Posvar Hall to see poster presentations on Year of Pitt Global projects and to get a sneak peek at the Global Hub, which won’t officially open until August.

Between April 25 and 28, Pitt awarded 741 doctoral degrees, 535 professional degrees, 2,573 master’s degrees and 2,160 undergraduate degrees. This year, for the first time as Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor, Cudd gets to watch from the stage as more than 5,000 newly minted graduates do the same at two separate ceremonies this week.
