Opening Keynote

This session was only offered live to the Summit audience.

The Opening Keynote with Kristen Hadeed focused on building authentic, trust-based relationships in professional settings, especially within mentoring and advising roles. Drawing on Gallup research showing low global employee engagement, she introduced the LISTEN model—Leave distractions, I am here for you, Silence, Tell me more, Empathy, and Nonverbal cues—as a framework for active, empathetic listening that fosters connection and psychological safety.

Kristen also emphasized the importance of understanding individual appreciation languages and maintaining “emotional bank accounts” through trust-building actions. She introduced practical tools for giving and receiving feedback, including the FBI model (Feeling, Behavior, Impact) and a feedback question bank. By encouraging intentional communication and courageous conversations, Kristen empowered attendees to create more supportive, engaged environments for both students and colleagues.
