Office of the Provost

Memorandum

January 9, 2013

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Interim University Registrar Patti Mathay has accepted my offer to become the University Registrar, effective January 1, 2013.

Ms. Mathay began her career at the University of Pittsburgh in 1976 in Pitt’s Computing Services and Systems Development division, becoming a lead systems analyst before transferring to Student Registration and Financial Services to implement an information technology system.  She became Manager and Assistant to the Registrar in 1998, Assistant University Registrar in 2007, and Associate University Registrar in 2011 with oversight of the technical and business functions for the Registrar’s Office, as well as responsibility for the course and classroom scheduling area.  She was named Interim University Registrar in July 2012.

Ms. Mathay is an active and committed member of the University community who has contributed significantly to the success of the institution both through her contributions in the registrar’s office and on important University-wide committees.  The committees on which she has served include the Enrollment Management Committee, the University Athletic Compliance Committee, the Provost’s Advisory Committee for Women’s Concerns, the Academic Calendar committee, the Classroom Management Team, and as a representative to the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Programs and University Council for Graduate Studies.  She has also held leadership roles within the Alumni Association, and is a member of the Middle States Association of Collegiate Registrars and Officers of Admissions and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offices.

As Registrar, Ms. Mathay has responsibility over student records, course and classroom scheduling, registration, and transcript verification and holds a university-wide leadership position as a member of the Council of Deans

Ms. Mathay earned her Bachelor of Science in elementary Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and her Masters of Business Administration from the Executive Educations Program at the Katz School in 1992.  She has also completed coursework in Higher Education Administration at Pitt.

I am delighted that Patti has agreed to serve as the University Registrar and have great confidence that she will continue to lead the Registrar’s Office to even higher levels of performance in service to and support of the broader Pitt community of faculty and students.  I very much look forward to working with Patti in the months and years to come.

Sincerely,

Patricia E. Beeson
