Office of the Provost

Announcement

June 20, 2007

Dear Colleagues:

With sincere regret, I must announce that Dr. Susan Kinsey, Associate Vice Provost for Continuing Education, will be resigning from the University at the end of July to accept a position as Dean of the McGhee Division within the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at New York University. The McGhee Division of NYU offers associate and bachelors degree programs for working adult students.

Dr. Kinsey served as Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs at the American University of Paris and at American University before coming to the University of Pittsburgh as Dean of the College of General Studies (CGS) in 1999. As Dean, she established the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, both of which are key to the role CGS plays in serving our community. She has served as the Associate Vice Provost for Continuing Education here since 2006. Dr. Kinsey understands the importance of very high quality academic programs for nontraditional and post-baccalaureate students. Well-versed in issues that must be addressed in order to successfully develop continuing education programs that underscore the University’s existing academic strengths, her insight on matters relating to continuing education at the University has been crucial to our progress this year.

Dr. Kinsey earned her masters and doctoral degrees in French literature at Columbia University and her bachelor of arts from the University of Maryland. She serves as Director-at-Large for the national University Continuing Education Association and participated in Lipman Hearne’s recognized roundtable discussion on Marketing Continuing Education for the 21st Century.

I have enjoyed working with Dr. Kinsey in her roles as Dean and Associate Vice Provost and through her service to the University through the activities of the Council of Deans.

Sincerely,

James V. Maher
