Academic Leadership Team Charter

1. Purpose

The purpose of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) is to ensure cohesive decision-making and strategic alignment across academic units, fostering a unified approach to achieving the University of Pittsburgh's mission and strategic objectives. The ALT is authorized by the Provost and will serve at the Provost’s discretion.

2. Structure

  • Chairperson: The Provost, who will lead the team and set the agenda for meetings.
  • Members:
    • Provost
    • Regional Presidents
    • Deans
    • Directors of University Centers, the University Library and the University Press
    • University Registrar
    • Provost Cabinet
    • Others appointed to the ALT by the provost
  • Meetings: The ALT will meet monthly, with additional meetings scheduled as needed to address urgent academic and strategic issues. The Chair will set the meeting agendas and lead meetings.

3. Responsibilities

  • Academic Mission: Provide strategic guidance and advice on the University’s academic mission and ensure programs and unit strategies contribute to the university's academic mission and advance academic excellence.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate on the formulation and execution of the university's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with academic mission, institutional priorities, and integration across all units.
  • Policy Development: Advise on and contribute to the creation of institutional policies that enhance educational and research excellence, faculty effectiveness, and student success.
  • Institutional Coordination: Facilitate communication and coordination across all campuses and academic units to leverage collaboration and ensure consistent implementation of policies and initiatives.
  • Resource Allocation: Provide input on resource distribution strategies that support the University’s strategic plan and academic program priorities, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
  • Public Impact: Encourage active engagement with targeted communities and other stakeholders to foster partnerships and enhance the university's impact.

4. Alignment with Institutional Goals

The ALT will ensure that all actions and recommendations align with the University of Pittsburgh's core values and strategic objectives. This includes promoting inclusivity and engagement, advancing research and scholarly excellence, and enhancing student success.
