Summary of Responsibilities of Administrators
If you, as an administrator, supervisor or manager, receive a complaint or hear, even indirectly, about a problem in your area that might reasonably be construed as sexual harassment:
1. As the University's representative, you are then on notice of possible sexual harassment and you are required to take some timely action (for example, to investigate the complaint yourself or refer it to the Office of Affirmative Action). If you do decide to handle the case yourself, there are resources to help you.
2. You should inform the alleged harasser that a sexual harassment complaint or incident has come to your attention. You should also inform the person that retaliation is prohibited.
3. If you think anyone involved, including the person making the complaint or the alleged harasser, needs assistance or counseling, refer the person to the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program or the Counseling Center.
4. If you determine that the sexual harassment policy has been violated, you are responsible for assuring an effective remedy so that the harassment stops, for imposing appropriate sanctions, and for keeping a record of the complaint, its resolution and sanctions.
