The
University of Pittsburgh is an excellent research university; our strength is
based in the exceptional quality of faculty throughout the University and
demonstrated in the outstanding levels of student achievement, research
success, and multidisciplinary teamwork. This
site – Resources for New Faculty
– is intended to serve as a useful and focused reference for new
University faculty; it can supplement but not replace the important work done
at the school, department, and program level by established faculty whose
guidance and advice are key to welcoming new faculty to the University
community. Each
academic unit of the University is committed to fostering a climate in which faculty
can be successful in teaching, research, and service. Centralized support is
available through initiatives based in the Provost’s Office and
elsewhere. The
Provost, as senior vice chancellor and chief academic officer, holds a
personal and professional commitment to the University’s mission. The
Office of the Provost is responsible for general oversight of academic
affairs at the University. The scope of our efforts encompasses research,
undergraduate education, graduate studies, student affairs, academic
planning, resource management, strategic and program development, and faculty
affairs. Faculty
