Provost Awards & Funding

Each year, the Office of the Provost is pleased to recognize individuals and who demonstrate educational excellence in areas such as mentoring, diversity in the curriculum, and innovation in education. The office also provides funding in support of new projects that show promise for personalizing students' educational experiences and those that promote high-quality research, scholarship, and creative endeavors.

 

Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring

The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring recognizes individuals for their outstanding mentoring of graduate students seeking a research doctorate degree.

Provost's Diversity in the Curriculum Award

The Diversity in the Curriculum Award celebrates and rewards Pitt faculty who make diversity and inclusion a part of their teaching practices.

Provost's Innovation in Education Awards

Each year, the Provost’s Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence invites proposals for its Innovation in Education Awards program recognizing University faculty for projects that aim to enhance teaching at Pitt and advance teaching models overall.

Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising

The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising annually recognizes advisors at the University of Pittsburgh who have engaged students in a collaborative and holistic process of advising by preparing students for lives of impact through educational experiences tailored to their specific goals and needs.

Open Education Resource Grants

To support the development of open educational resources the Provost provides funding for projects that will enhance the educational experiences of Pitt students and provide these faculty with the ability to customize their course materials.

“Year of” Funding Opportunities

The Office of the Provost awards matching funds of up to $8,000 to support project proposals and programs related to the annual “Year of” initiative. Pitt Momentum Funds

The Pitt Momentum Funds support high-quality research, scholarship, and creative endeavors at three distinct scales, including Priming (formerly Seeding), Teaming, and Scaling Grants. Awards are made across the breadth of interdisciplinary scholarship at the University, and all eligible faculty are encouraged to propose new, innovative ideas that can contribute meaningful insight, understanding, or solutions to societal challenges.

Fueling Our Future: Internal Funding Showcase

The Office of the Provost and the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research launched an annual Funding Showcase for internally funded interdisciplinary research projects. The inaugural event took place February 24, 2020. This showcase provided a platform to recognize the grantees of the restructured Pitt Momentum Funds and the work of other seed funding program recipients, including the awardees of the Personalized Education Grant and Pitt Seed.
