Building Safety Concierge Program

August 20, 2020

Dear Council of Deans Members and HR Partners,

We reached out last week to announce our Building Safety Concierge program, working together to guide Pitt community members on building safety protocols and access. We are reaching out again now that the scheduling software is available, asking that you help spread the word and encourage participation.

Across all campuses, concierge stations will become operational on Monday August 24. On the Pittsburgh campus, the current plan is for faculty and staff volunteers to begin serving at a small number of locations on Monday September 7, and then broadly on Monday September 14 provided that the campus is operating in either Guarded or Elevated Risk Posture. The link for registering for shifts on the Pittsburgh campus is here:

Staffing for the regional campuses will begin Monday, August 24. Campus-specific schedulers will be circulated for those campuses under separate cover.

As a reminder, faculty and staff volunteers will work alongside access control employees and student workers in welcoming Pitt affiliates while ensuring that those who are following the health rules are permitted to enter Pitt buildings. All concierge service providers will receive training, and will work with materials and equipment provided  including ID card readers, temperature scanners, work tables protected by plexiglass screens, hand sanitizing units and disposable face coverings. A role description is available on the EH&S Resources website.

Please help us spread the word on this critical need for help to expand the University’s Pandemic Safety Network, encouraging faculty and staff members to provide a few hours of their time each week, as they are available with supervisor approval, to volunteer. Please keep in mind that this is a completely voluntary program and no one should feel compelled to participate.

Thank you for your continuing support, and H2P!
