Office of the Provost

Announcement

July 26, 2005

Dear Colleagues:

It is with deep regret that I have accepted the resignation of Vice Provost Jack L. Daniel, effective December 31, 2005. Dr. Daniel, who has served as a member of the Provost’s senior staff since 1984 and will remain a Professor of Communication in our School of Arts and Sciences, wishes to focus his considerable energies on his scholarship and other special assignments. His decision to step down from his current administrative position will conclude almost four decades of successful administrative leadership and service to the University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Daniel has focused on continuous improvement of undergraduate education, facilitating efforts to provide students with exemplary educational opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. He entered academic administration work because of an abiding interest in effecting social change, committed to working from a position of strength to encourage success for all students. In recent years, Dr. Daniel helped to strengthen the necessary connections between student and academic life.

Dr. Daniel will continue in his current position through the fall term. With this in mind, I will begin soon to consider my options for replacement for this position on my senior staff.

Sincerely,

James V. Maher
