Announcement

April 28, 2005

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Lawrence Feick has accepted my offer to become the Interim Dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration, effective August 1, 2005. Dr. Feick completed his undergraduate and masters degree studies at the University of Delaware and earned his doctoral degree from the Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Feick is the director of the University’s International Business Center and professor of business administration. He teaches marketing management and international marketing; his research includes work in international marketing (particularly cross-cultural consumer behavior), consumer information search, word-of-mouth influence, and the analysis of categorical data.

During his distinguished career, Dr. Feick, who has been a member of the Katz faculty since 1982, has also served as the associate dean of the Katz School. He has served as a consultant to a number of profit and nonprofit firms and has done extensive work in executive education. He is the coauthor of Country Manager, an international marketing simulation game, and has published articles in a range of professional journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Psychological Bulletin and Public Opinion Quarterly. He has served as president of the Association for International Business Education and Research (AIBER) and the Sheth Foundation.

I have great confidence that Dr. Feick will provide thoughtful academic leadership to the School during the search for a new Dean this year. He possesses the necessary experience and integrity to build on the School’s strengths and priorities. I look forward to helping Dr. Feick and the Katz School community identify academic opportunities and work toward our shared goal of excellence.

A search committee, chaired by Vice Provost Robert F. Pack, will form this summer with the intention of identifying a new Dean of the Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration who will begin his or her responsibilities in August of 2006.

Sincerely,

James V. Maher
